Fatal Helicopter Crash In Siberia

Fifteen people have been killed when a civilian helicopter crashed in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia.

“Latest data showed that 10 people have died in the crash and 15 others have been taken to hospital”, the office said in a statement, Xinhua reported.

It was transporting workers to the remote Vankor oil and gas field, which can be reached only by helicopter or, in winter, by land along the frozen river.

Some 22 passengers and three crew members were onboard the helicopter that lost contact at with air traffic control at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The Mi-8 helicopter has crashed in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk krai due to the technical failure, a source in the country’s law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti Nov.26. The emergencies ministry said the helicopter made a hard landing in a difficult access area some 2 kilometers from the airport of Igarka and its fuselage was destroyed without catching fire.
