Father And Son Killed In France Attack Had North Texas Roots
The Bastille Day crowd on the waterfront in Nice, France, was a festive mixture of French locals and foreign visitors.

Lakeway residents Sean Copeland and son, Brodie, were killed July 14 while on vacation in Nice, France.
Kim, Maegan and Austin remained in Nice after the incident.
Cable also said Sean Copeland was a great father.
Aaron Cable, with the Hill Country Baseball Club, said he has worked closely with Brodie over the years and that he was “an overall talented, Renaissance-man kind of kid”.
The group said the photo of Brodie had been sent to them from the French Riviera. Nobody deserves this type of fate, especially not such a wonderful family.
U.S. Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, who is also chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, wrote on Twitter on Friday: “A truly heartbreaking loss of life in #Nice, my condolences and prayers are with the Copelands and the community of Lakeway, TX today”.
“His parents are going to have to tell him”, Paiz said.
“Their family, like so many others, are devastated”, Obama said in the East Room. “Our hearts go out to Sean and his family, and for everyone who is suffering in France and elsewhere from this senseless violent act”.
“We’ve been contacting all the entities there”, said the woman, who declined to give her name. He was a promising baseball player and the Copelands were very involved in our program. He liked to shoot short films, complete with special effects, his fifth-grade teacher Coleen Serfoss said.
We’ll have the full story in Sunday’s Daily Record. Our worst fears were realized as we soon thereafter learned that we had lost Sean and Brodie in the attack.
According to reports, at least 10 children killed were killed in the attack. The attack happened on a night when the seaside promenade was teeming with families and young people. Dolls and toys were strewn about the scene of the attack, according to images posted on social media. A truck hauled away abandoned baby strollers.
He said Sean Copeland was an enthusiastic father who made time to make sure Brodie got baseball training. “When they return home they will be wrapped up, they will be well loved, well fed, well covered, most importantly well prayed over”, he said.
“Sean was not only a terrific leader in the company but a phenomenal person who will be dearly missed”, Lexmark spokesman Jerry Grasso said in a statement. A GoFundMe page was set by the Copeland’s prior baseball league to benefit the family, and had collected more than $52,000 as of Saturday morning.
The governor’s office said the French flag is being flown over the governor’s mansion in Austin in remembrance of the victims.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that every attack is tragic but “this latest one hits close to home”. “It took a while to sink in”, said Jason Dixon, a Prosper City Councilman.
Brodie’s “attitude and personality were infectious”, he added.
