Father of fallen soldier asks if Trump has read the Constitution

Khizr Khan, whose son Humayun was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq 12 years ago, turned his family’s story of struggle and loss into a searing indictment of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The father of a deceased Muslim US solider delivered a riveting, emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday, during which he pulled out a copy of the US Constitution from his pocket and questioned whether Donald Trump had ever read it. “I will gladly lend you my copy”, he said.

In the biggest speech of her more than 25-year-old career in the public eye, Clinton will sound the themes that will propel her campaign against Republican Donald Trump in the November 8 election.

“In this document, look for the words liberty and equal protection of law”.

Last December, Trump first proposed his “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States”.

On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, the party doubtless hoped to rally as many people as possible around the cause of its nominee, Hillary Clinton. “He vows to build walls and ban us from this country”.

“Have you ever been to Arlington cemetery?” he then asked. Donald Trump, you’re asking us to trust you with our future.

Humayun Khan was a U.S. Army captain who died serving his country.

Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son “the best of America”. “We were blessed to raise our three sons in a nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams. Go look at the graves of the courageous patriots who died defending America – you will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities”, he said. “You have sacrificed nothing and no one”, Khan said. “He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, even his own party leadership”, he said.

It was also a message Khan hammered home when, standing next to his wife on stage, he took out a copy of the Constitution and held it in the air.
