Police say it happened during a family gathering at a home on Foxglove Circle, in the gated community of Atlantic Point.
The sons, 30-year-old Irwin Noak III and 22-year-old Aaron Noak, were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Noak went and got a gun from his bedroom and shot them, police said.
Irvin Noak was transported via South Country Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. They intervened in a family argument.
Noak himself worked for the NYPD for 27 years, from 1982-2009, when he retired.
The nature of the argument wasn’t immediately clear. According to his facebook profile, Irvin Noak studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. No one else was injured in the shooting.
