An 8-month-old boy is dead after a shooting in north St. Louis, and police are still searching for the father and suspected gunman.
LOUIS, Mo- An amber alert has been issued from St. Louis after an 8-month-old boy was shot and killed in north St. Louis.
UPDATED at 3:10 p.m. with alert for suspect and kids.
According to police, the family got into a rental auto when the mother said she felt coerced to get into the vehicle. Reien was pronounced dead at Christian Hospital after being taken there by a Good Samaritan. Police sources say that the baby does not appear to be the intended target, but that the father likely meant to shoot the mother. The vehicle was later recovered.
The shooting occurred at around 1:10 p.m.at a stop sign near the intersection of Interstate 270 and Riverview Boulevard. Chief Dotson said while the driver was on the line with the dispatcher, it sounded like they were being pursued by Crockett and that he was attempting to run them off them off the road.
Police are continuing to search for 34-year-old Diata R. Crockett, who is wanted in the death of Reign Crockett.
At some point, Crockett stopped his pursuit of the auto.
Police said they’re looking for a black 2014 Hyundai Sonata with IL license V446952.
Police say the two kids were in the back of the auto, but have since been found unharmed at a relative’s house.
Investigators are still looking for Crockett, who might be wearing green trousers and a lime green shirt.
Upon his arrest, Diata Crockett will be charged with first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.
The couple have three other children, who were at a daycare at the time.
