Favre back with Pack

When former Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett thinks about Brett Favre, Barnett always focuses first on the legendary Packers quarterback’s unbridled love for playing football. “And to do it in Green Bay would be awesome”.

Brett Favre completed 6,300 of 10,169 National Football League passes for 71,838 yards, 508 touchdown passes for 336 interceptions.

Now if his receivers were back in their prime, ol’ No. 4 might have had a few more completions Sunday at his charity flag football game.

It was all just for fun, of course. Instead, the crowd of Packers fans greeted Favre with a four-minute standing ovation that almost made the quarterback burst into tears on stage.

It was the culmination of a momentous weekend back in Wisconsin for Favre.

Mike Gage was the Packers Hall of Fame board president and the third publisher of the family-owned Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Favre’s Legends beat the NFL All-Stars 38-32, with the winning touchdown coming from No. 4. “I said, ‘Dude, you can’t play next week.'”. After being questioned about retirement the past couple of seasons, Favre silenced his critics by breaking records left and right.

Freeman wasn’t sure he was going to be able to hold onto a Favre fastball again.

“It’s wonderful”, Gasser said. The two connected on a roughly 40-yard catch-and-run for a score for Levens. The Packers had only received their last Super Bowl win under Vince Lombardi in 1967, and in 25 years prior to Favre’s era, the team only managed to have two playoff appearances.

Scott, Favre’s brother who also played in the Sunday game said the event came into his brother a little at peace, providing him a feeling of animosity that people might think on both sides. “This is way beyond what I dreamed of and I am so honored”, Favre told the crowd Saturday.

Even at age 45, Favre still has fun playing the game.

“He looked at me and said, ‘Roy Lee – that’s what he called me – there ain’t a damn thing wrong with my arm, ‘” Butler said.

More than 67,000 fans packed into the stadium to honor the 45-year-old Favre, who played for the Packers from 1992 to 2007 and led Green Bay to a 35-21 victory over the New England in Super Bowl XXXI at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans at the end of the 1996 season.
