Fazio joins Roma on loan from Tottenham

The transfer of Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio to Roma looks set to be completed after the Argentine was photographed holding a scarf from his new club at the airport in Rome.

Fazio spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino recently announced that the centre-back is not part of his plans for 2016-17.

“I am very happy to join a great team like Roma”, Fazio told the Roma website. “I really want to start training and get to know my new team-mates and coach”.

He didn’t play consistently in England, but he has experience, he’s a solid player with a strong mentality.

While the particulars haven’t exactly been ironed out yet, it is widely speculated that Roma and Spurs have agreed to a €4 million loan-with-an-option-to-buy deal.

Either way, whichever club the 29-year-old joined, once everything was finalized, Tottenham would be selling at a loss.

He signed a four-year deal at White Hart Lane but has played just 25 times for the club – and was sent off on his Premier League debut.

On from taking his medicals this morning, Fazio signed a contract and officially became a Roma player, as confirmed by the club. Whoever proves to be the best out of this bunch could see themselves playing alongside Wimmer in cup competitions.

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as their first-choice pairing at the heart of the Spurs defence, it’s clear that Fazio will continue to find it impossible to break into the starting line-up.
