“The individual we believe to be responsible for the victim’s stab wounds is now deceased inside the mall”, police said early Sunday.

“That suspect was confronted by an off duty police officer and summarily shot and killed”.

Authorities have not released the name of the off-duty officer who’s from another jurisdiction.

The statement from police did not say exactly what type of weapon the suspect used in the stabbing spree.

He said: “People came running around the corner and I freaked out because I thought it was a terrorist attack or something because I saw a lot of people, so I grabbed my kids”.

“It’s an very bad day”, Anderson said, adding that St. Cloud “won’t be the same” after the attack.

While the mall will be closed until further notice because it’s considered a crime scene, he said, there’s no imminent threat to the city.

An explosion rocked a crowded Manhattan neighbourhood and injured 29 people, and a suspicious device discovered blocks away was safely removed early Sunday.

‘That individual made some references to Allah and we confirmed that he asked at least one person if they were Muslim before assaulting them, ‘ he added.

Police also say the suspect asked at least one person during the course of the attack whether they were Muslim.

He said: We will be diligent and get to the bottom of this. Thousands of people were about to participate in the 5K race in Seaside Park.

Police Sgt Jason Burke said the mall remains on lockdown and the injured are being treated at a local hospital. Photos and video of the mall taken hours after the incident showed groups of shoppers waiting to be released, including some huddled together near a food court entrance.

Isle, Minnesota residents Harley Exsted and his wife Tama were in St. Cloud for their son’s a college golf tournament and were in the mall when the stabbings happened. Mayor Bill de Blasio called the blast an “intentional act”, but said there was no terrorist connection. “I ran as much as I could and I heard someone yell ‘Stop!”
