As we continue to get more information on the terrorist who killed 50 people and injured as many more in Orlando Sunday, we find ourselves yet again in the murky world of “Why?”
At the White House, President Barack Obama said Monday there is no clear evidence so far that gunman Omar Mateen was directed by the extremist group.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – In a story June 15 about the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, The Associated Press reported erroneously the location from which survivor Patience Carter spoke about the shooting.
The investigation into an attack that left Mateen and 49 victims dead includes a look at his current spouse.
Wielding an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and a handgun, the younger Mateen opened fire at the crowded Pulse Orlando club early Sunday in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern USA history.
Mateen was born in NY but pledged allegiance to ISIS during his cold-blooded attack on the LGBT club during Pride month.
Mateen’s father said he became infuriated after seeing 2 men kiss in public.
Van Horn recalled that Mateen “was trying to pick up people, men”.
“Once you know one, you know all here in Orlando”, he joked.
It was an attack against unarmed civilians who were shot indiscriminately by someone reportedly sympathising with Daesh terrorist group, who thought it was his duty to punish the gay community represented by those present in the bar. At least 53 people were hospitalized, including five in grave condition, meaning the death toll could rise. He didn’t talk but would smile and shake hands, Rahman said. “Pulse gave me confidence, made me realize I was normal and so much like everyone else”. “I think the implications here are not just for how we treat a religious minority in the USA, but also how we treat the rights & liberties of everyone”. “I don’t want any more.’ I was just begging God to take the soul out my body”. Therefore, the argument goes, the Islamic State needs to be routed as quickly as possible to strip of the group of its appeal for radicals.
Obama echoed the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief’s assessment, saying, “It appears the shooter was inspired by various extremist information that was disseminated over the internet”. “Only few days ago our nation stood united to bid farewell to a great American Muslim who honored and respected the human life, so we must not allow this monstrous behavior to divide us”, Abdul-Karim said in statement on Sunday.
An official who was briefed on the case but insisted on anonymity to discuss a continuing investigation said authorities believe 30-year-old US -born Noor Salman knew ahead of time about the attack.
Gay dating app Jack’d said it has been unable to confirm so far that Mateen had a profile on the service. He said he told his family the news “and they started preaching”. And Adam4Adam said the company is looking at conversations and profiles in the Orlando area for any activity by Mateen but hasn’t found anything yet.
Mateen’s father, Seddique Mateen, denied his son was gay and said that if he had been in the nightclub before, he may have been “scouting the place”.
A former Florida police officer who says he once worked with Orlando club shooter Omar Mateen described the 29-year-old as “unstable and unhinged”.
Psychological studies have shown that some men with repressed same-sex desires may express anti-gay views, especially if they grew up in families that opposed homosexuality. “It’s devastating when you see how many people lost their lives and the impact on the families”.
Mateen’s ex-wife Sitora Yusifiy told reporters that her ex-husband was repeatedly abusive to her during their marriage and probably bipolar. This could happen 9 million more times.
Mina said the gunman was armed with an assault rifle, a handgun and some sort of unidentified device.

Investigators working to determine whether anyone had advance knowledge of the attack have spoken extensively with Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman, and are working to establish whether she and Mateen were recently at or inside the club, the official said. Johnson did not say how he learned of the posts other than to cite “information obtained by my staff”.
