Alam said he hit the gas and tried to take his passengers to their destination in Queens, but pulled over along Madison Avenue and 39th Street.
Five suspects were reportedly collared by police who are now undergoing interrogation. A forensic examination of the device will be sent to the FBI Laboratory at Quantico, Virginia, police said.
The bomb went off Saturday in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, injuring 29 people. They’ve all since been released from hospitals. Four blocks away on 27th Street, a pressure-cooker device was found with a piece of paper with writing on it close by, officials said. It was taken from the scene by a bomb removal robot.
The other, possible explosive device found near the blast site in New York City also had a cell phone connected to it.
While officials said the events had not been linked to worldwide terrorism, the security threat put residents, police and security personnel on high alert as three explosions took place over the weekend but did not cause any fatalities.
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio said Saturday that there is “no evidence at this point of a terror connection” to an explosion in New York Saturday evening, in which twenty-nine people were injured.
“That really drove the investigation”, he said.
The event in Seaside Park was cancelled and no one was injured. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who toured the site of the blast in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, said there didn’t appear to be any link to worldwide terrorism.
FBI investigators were to examine remnants of the bomb plus an unexploded device found four blocks away and another device that exploded about 130 km away in New Jersey on Saturday to see if they were connected, Cuomo said.
No suspects were immediately identified in the NY and New Jersey attacks or the latest incident in Elizabeth. NYPD and FBI Bomb Technicians deemed the device safe.
Bollwage said that the men are being questioned at police headquarters but are not suspected of building or planting the device.
“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”, he said.
After landing in suburban New York City, Clinton told reporters she had been briefed “about the bombings in New York and New Jersey and the attacks in Minnesota”.
A number of New York City subway routes were affected by the explosion, which rattled some New Yorkers just weeks after the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
U.N. Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Sunday that security inside the complex “is being assessed on a constant basis”. The host city of the world body is already on high alert to guarantee the security of visiting heads of state or government.
Investigators believe the blast was caused by an explosive device in or near a dumpster, a law enforcement source told CNN.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, center, and NYPD Chief of Department James O’Neill, center right, speak during a press conference near the scene of an apparent explosion on West 23rd street in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, in New York, Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. “I have seen so many of this, and I can only say this was not the first and won’t be the last”, said the police veteran who had served for 22 years. A spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in NY said investigators were examining its remnants to determine its composition.
The official wasn’t authorized to discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. Tannerite is a binary explosive that can be bought in kits and available for private use with little regulation.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday he’s deploying 1,000 state police and National Guard troops to New York City to help with security efforts.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the statement Monday after the New York Police Department said authorities were searching for 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami in connection with the bombing.
Bill de Blasio says he could be armed and unsafe. No one was injured in the Seaside Park explosion.
The bomb that exploded in New York was made from a pressure cooker filled with shrapnel, a design meant to inflict maximum damage, the New York Times reported on Sunday, citing unnamed law enforcement officials.
“It is too early to determine what the incident was caused by”.
Authorities say there was no structural damage from the blast.
Surveillance video from a nearby fitness center shows the moment of the explosion.
Less than three hours after the blast, an object police described as a “possible secondary device” was found just a few blocks away from the original explosion on 27th Street while officers were combing the area. Most of the injuries were minor. But at the same time, almost 1,000 New York State police and members of the National Guard will be deployed to bus terminals, airports and subway stations.
The development comes almost 24 hours after dozens were injured after an explosive device rocked a Chelsea neighborhood. It was certainly a criminal act. Investigators scrambled Sunday to find out wh.
It happened outside the Associated Blind Housing facility at 135 W. 23rd Street which provides housing, training and other services for the blind. Officials said no evacuations were necessary.
