FBI Questioning Car’s Occupants in Connection to New York Blast
On Sunday afternoon, De Blasio and other city officials stressed that the investigation was in early stages and while investigators could determine the blast was “criminal” and “intentional”, they hadn’t nailed down a suspect or a motive.

A spokesman for the New York Police Department declined to confirm the reports, only saying that the probe was ongoing. Anderson said, however, that a ninth victim left the scene on his own and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Earlier on Sunday, New York Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio said: “Was it a political motivation?”
“I want to say more broadly, there is no specific and credible threat against New York City at this point in time from any terror organization”.
Cuomo, touring the site of Saturday’s blast in Chelsea, said the unexploded pressure cooker device appeared “similar in design” to the bomb that exploded in Chelsea. On Sunday night, police blew up the device, rendering it safe.
An extra 1,000 state police and National Guard will deploy to airports, bus terminals and subway stations to reassure New Yorkers returning to work on Monday that the city is up and running, he said. Those were just some tests, I know where I have made errors and I will not make the same mistake next time. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak about an ongoing investigation, said the device was found inside a plastic bag on West 27th Street.
It was later sent to an NYPD range in the Bronx aboard a special containment vessel, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office said.
The New York City explosion, which injured at least 29 people, occurred on West 23rd Street around 8:30 p.m.in an area frequented by shoppers and diners. The assailant was a “soldier of the Islamic State”, the militant group said on Sunday.
The bomb that exploded in New York was made from a pressure cooker filled with shrapnel, a design meant to inflict maximum damage, the New York Times reported on Sunday, citing unnamed law enforcement officials.
Two members of the New York City Fire Department’s Tower Ladder 12 sit stationed on Sunday near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 22nd Street.
Caldwell reported from Washington.
Officials initially said the bombing did not appear to be an act of global terrorism, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo reversed course Monday morning, saying it could have been a terrorist act with foreign connections.
However, they have not ruled out a possible connection as both devices used cellphones as detonators, but that is common in explosive devices.
Cuomo said there was “significant” damage to property around the blast site, and it was fortunate there weren’t more casualties.
The Manhattan incident came hours after a pipe bomb exploded close to the route of a road race in Seaside Park, New Jersey.

Two men discovered the backpack and reported it to police after they saw “wires and a pipe” in the package, Bollwage said. “We do not know that yet”. A second device believed to be a pressure cooker with wires and cellphone was later found four blocks away and was safely removed early Sunday. Both de Blasio and Cuomo were committed to denying that there is any jihad that has anything to do with terrorism in the first place, so they would never answer (or, given the state of the mainstream media, be asked) that question, but just to assert that the bombing was not terrorism, or global terrorism, did not entirely rule out that it may have been an act of Islamic jihadis. A small crowd watched from behind the police tape Sunday morning as investigators gathered at the blast site.
