FBI releases image of New York bomb suspects

The FBI appealed for the public’s help Wednesday in locating two unidentified men who removed an explosive device from a piece of luggage planted just a few blocks from where a separate bomb detonated Saturday night in NY, injuring 31 people.

“The FBI is interested in speaking to these individuals and recovering the luggage”, the agency’s stated noted. The second device – the one the two men in the photo removed from a suitcase – was found unexploded several hours later on 27th Street.

“We have no reason to believe that they’re connected”, James R. Waters, the New York Police Department’s chief of counterterrorism, told the Washington Post.

According to the poster, the men were seen on closed circuit TV picking up a suitcase from the sidewalk in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, “removing an improvised explosive device from the luggage”, and then leaving the device behind but taking the suitcase when they departed the scene.

The bag was likely placed on the sidewalk about 8:30 p.m., about the same time an explosive device was detonated on West 23rd Street, injuring 29 people.

The blast in NY left 29 people injured, but no injuries were reported in the bombings in New Jersey. Earlier Saturday, a bomb went off at a charity in Seaside Park, N.J. And late Sunday, another explosive was detonated in Elizabeth, N.J.
