The driver is believed to be a native of OH who has recently been staying in the Pittsburgh area.
Thomas Richard Ross, 48, of New Waterford, Ohio, is charged with damaging government property and causing damage to buildings or property within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
The local US attorney’s office, which would prosecute any federal charges that are filed, confirmed it had been contacted.
After the crash, the man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for unknown injuries.
Ross faces numerous charges including aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, fleeing and eluding and various driving offenses, the Pittsburgh public safety department said.
No explosives were found in the truck, and the driver wasn’t armed. The truck had been driving erratically and was stopped near the Federal Bureau of Investigation offices by a Pitts. He was taken to Allegheny County jail, where he couldn’t be reached for comment.
The front entrance gate of the FBI Pittsburgh has a guard booth which at the time was occupied by a security officer as well as several security barriers.
The truck was disabled by security barriers that are meant to prevent vehicles from driving into the office complex on the city’s South Side.
The driver is being treated at a hospital.
“He indicated to the officer that he was intending to ram the gate”, Federal Bureau of Investigation supervisory special agent Greg Heeb told WTAE.
