FBI Turns Over Clinton Probe Material To Congress

Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, sent a letter to Comey asking for “interview transcripts, notes, 302 reports”, which are interview summaries, and other documents related to the investigation into Clinton’s use of the private email server during her State Department tenure.

House Republicans have asserted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation documents could demonstrate that Mrs Clinton committed perjury when she testified last October that she did not send or receive emails that were marked classified at the time.

Republicans are also demanding that the Justice Department open a new investigation into whether Clinton lied to Congress.

Judicial Watch has sued (under the Freedom of Information Act) for the release of Mrs Clinton’s emails.

The two developments on Tuesday all but ensured that the controversy over what FBI Director James Comey called the “extremely careless” handling of classified information by Clinton and her aides while she was secretary of state will persist through the 12 weeks remaining before the election. “You cannot say one day this is unclassified “nothing to see here” and the next day, only certain people can see this and you must not be able to take it outside of a secure facility”.

“There are no further details at this time”, the aide said.

Democrats, meanwhile, expressed concern that the Republicans would leak snippets of the classified materials carefully selected to make the presidential candidate look bad without providing a fair account of what happened.

Clinton has repeatedly said that the answers she gave to the FBI’s questions about her email were truthful and that those answers were consistent with what she has said publicly about the matter. “The public’s business ought to be public, with few exceptions”, Grassley said in a statement.

The FBI stated that the documents couldn’t be released either in part or in full unless prior agency approval is gotten.

“Although there may be other aspects of Secretary Clinton’s sworn testimony that are at odds with the FBI’s findings, her testimony in those four areas bears specific scrutiny in light of the facts and evidence”, they wrote. “The FBI should make as much of the material available as possible”.

The House Oversight and Government Reform and Judiciary committees have forwarded a referral to investigate Clinton for perjury with the U.S. Attorney for the District Columbia. Comey said three emails had small markings in the body of the email (not on the header) indicating that material included in the email was classified.

“For those documents that are portion marked, please provide the Committee with unclassified copies by redacting the information that has been marked as classified”.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said in a statement provided to NBC News, “With the exception of the classified emails that had been found on the private server, I can see little legitimate goal to which Congress will put these materials”.

Also, Republicans say Clinton testified that none of the emails she sent or received were marked classified.
