One month after the deeming rule went into effect, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued its first warning letters to retailers in violation of the new regulations.
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has released a statement encouraging its member stores to remind their staff about complying with federal law, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products, including cigarettes, RYO, smokeless tobacco, cigars, pipe tobacco, e-cigarettes/vapor products and hookah tobacco, to underage youth. Compliance checks conducted at a variety of sources-including major national retail chains and tobacco specialty stores-found that minors were able to buy some of the newly regulated tobacco products in a variety of flavors that appeal to kids, including bubble gum and gummy bear. “Retailers play a vital role in keeping harmful and addictive tobacco products out of the hands of children and we urge them to take that responsibility seriously”. If a retailer does not request proof of age of anyone under the age of 27, or sells tobacco to those under the legal purchase age it is considered a violation. The liquid heats up inside of the device until it vaporizes, creating a vapor that the user can inhale or “smoke”.
