FDA Orders the Taking Down Of Kim K’s Instagram Post Promoting Diclegis
However, events this week with Kim Kardashian and social media show that there are other ways to bring attention to any drug.

Like Kardashian, Stephanie Dulli suffered from awful morning sickness throughout all three of her pregnancies.
Last week, FDA warned drugmaker Duchesnay that Kim Kardashian West’s Instagram post promoting its morning sickness drug Diclegis did not adequately disclose risk information, AP/Miami Herald reports.
Kim posted, “have you heard about this?”
But the publicity hungry reality TV star’s online endorsement landed makers at the Duchesnay pharmaceutical company in trouble with officials at America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as it failed to include the required health and safety warnings.
“The social media submit… As you guys know my #morningsickness has been pretty bad … so I talked to my doctor”, Kardashian wrote in the photo’s caption.
“The social media post is false or misleading in that it presents efficacy claims for Diclegis, but fails to communicate any risk information associated with its use and to its material facts”, stated a warning letter by Robert Dean, Division Director of the Office of Prescription Drug Promotion. She then went on to explain the Diclegis cured her morning sickness and, “most importantly, it’s been studied and there was no increased risk to the baby. I’m so excited and happy with my results…” she exclaimed.
This poses the question of whether celebrities should be allowed to endorse such products, if any at all, since the U.S. doesn’t have regulations on endorsement deals, unlike India where the law states that “no person shall be allowed to engage in misleading representation concerning the standard, quality, quantity or grade-composition” and need for, or the usefulness of a food product.
According to the FDA, directing people to the company’s website in order to “find out more” isn’t enough.
