Chelsea, the neighborhood of the explosion, is primarily a diverse residential area on the west side of Manhattan. State officials are coordinating our response with federal and New York City authorities, and full State resources have been made available for this investigation. Police say 26 people have sustained minor injuries in the explosion on West 23rd Street.

Johnson said the entire area is shut down.

The Trump campaign did not respond to numerous requests for comment Saturday night on whether Trump had any evidence the explosion was a bomb or whether he was in contact with NYC officials.

He said he heard the explosion and “could feel a wave of pressure that pushed through neighborhood, it wasn’t something small – the building shook, the deck shook, and I could feel the air move. the air was moving like an explosion”.

She was in the Washington DC addressing the Congressional Black Caucus dinner.

CNN cited law enforcement sources as saying they believed an improvised explosive device caused the blast.

But in NY, officials were tight-lipped on the cause of the blast, saying it was still under investigation but confirmed it had not been a gas leak. He said a second site four blocks away at 27th street was being searched. The Wall Street Journal reported that no one was hurt in the earlier blast and it remains unclear if the two explosions are connected.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says there is no reason to think that the explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood had a terrorist connection, but he did call the blast an “intentional act”.

“Tonight, New York City experienced a very bad incident, ” de Blasio said at a news conference near the scene. There were no injuries in that incident. He said one person might have suffered injuries.

New York Police also reported shortly after 11 p.m. that they had found a possible secondary device a few blocks away from the explosion scene. However, he went on to add that he had proof that the explosion was an “intentional act”.

The blast happened in front of a residence for the blind. “My 10-year-old boy was sat in the back seat of the vehicle, and the explosion blew the back window out”, said Tsi Tsi Mallett, who was driving along 23rd Street when the explosion took place.
