Fearless Exeter boss warns injury-hit Liverpool ahead of FA Cup tie

Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Sam Allardyce’s comments that the German coach’s training methods are to blame for Liverpool’s current injury crisis, saying he is “glad” the Sunderland boss has the time to speak about the Reds.

Midfielder Lucas was deployed as an emergency centre-back alongside Toure after Lovren’s withdrawal, but the Ivorian confounded Liverpool’s injury woes when he appeared to be struggling at full-time with what also looked like a hamstring injury.

As Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure picked up injuries in the game against Stoke City, Liverpool have no recognized centrebacks fit, with Martin Skrtel, Joe Gomes and Mamadou Sakho already sidelined.

Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is looking forward to making his first team debut in Friday’s FA Cup tie at Exeter City.

He continued that he was “proud” of his team’s performance because of how “the reaction was great” and “it was such a hard game in all parts” only a few days after he was “really angry” with his team’s display at West Ham – but also said two injuries is “not good”.

Klopp revealed that the hamstring problem suffered by Philippe Coutinho at Stoke was more serious than Dejan Lovren’s while Toure would be back soon.

Liverpool do need a stronger defender in my opinion, and this situation could force Liverpool to panic by a defender who doesn’t fit the side as well as Jurgen Klopp would Like. “We have to think about more than just one game”.

We are often in situations where we can score goals and we don’t use them. “It’s not a coincidence – five hamstrings – I think they have to look at what they’re doing in training”.

“The problem is that, in this situation, we speak about the intensity of “my style”.

“Injuries? Yeah that’s it, I know that’s the next step – it’s my responsibility. I’m responsible for these things and if you want to make me responsible for our hamstring strains, then OK”.

“I believe they still have a chance in the Capital One Cup, but obviously the odds are stacked against them somewhat after losing the home leg of their semi-final 1-0 against Liverpool on Tuesday”.

“We knew we needed to respond with a good performance first and foremost, a performance full of commitment and desire and we got that”.
