Federal Bureau of Investigation accused of ‘double standard’ over Hillary Clinton email probe

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover, grilled FBI Director James Comey on the possibility that foreign hackers breached Hillary Clinton’s private email server, telling a congressional committee that “there’s more to this story than we know”.

Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) told Comey that he would request the FBI investigate whether Clinton lied under oath to Congress.

Was that true, asked Gowdy?

The State Department is reopening an internal investigation of possible mishandling of classified information by Hillary Clinton and top aides.

Though her statement was not recorded, a summary of it was prepared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

There are so many gems here but the FBI Director’s testimony strains credulity. “I don’t think there has been a referral from Congress”.

REP. JASON CHAFFETZ: That the average joe, the average American, that if they had done what you laid out in your statement, that they’d be in handcuffs, and they might be on their way to jail, and they probably should. First let me say this, FBI Director Comey is human, puts his trousers on one leg at a time and makes mistakes ( boy does he), the same as you and me.

Lying to Congress under oath is, theoretically, a serious criminal charge that can carry jail time; it isn’t one that is frequently prosecuted.

Presidential politics will dominate Capitol Hill Thursday morning.

Democrats defended Comey’s decision not to bring charges, noting the lack of evidence that Clinton’s server was ever compromised.

In another interview to MSNBC, Clinton said there was no evidence of hacking of the server which hosted her emails.

Comey said the decision whether or not to prosecute hinged on determining whether or not Clinton sought to break the law at the time.

House Speaker Paul Ryan also pressed Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Thursday to withhold all classified information from Clinton unless and until she becomes president. She then asks Comey to explain how he concluded Clinton did not run afoul of that law. Maybe it could be forgiven if she only used one device even.

Comey said Clinton’s handling of classified emails was “extremely careless” but isn’t a case of gross negligence. Did Clinton return all work-related emails to the State Department? They weren’t going to get Comedy to budge on his recommendation that Clinton should not be charged, but his statement earlier this week that she had displayed “extreme carelessness” gave them ground to pursue a smaller, ethics-based concession.
