Federal Bureau of Investigation questioning persons of interest in NYC explosion
The investigation comes after 29 people were injured in a blast in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighbourhood. Experts said a large amount would be required to create a blast like the one Saturday night, as well as an accelerant or other ignitor. A police officer went to investigate and recognized the man as Rahami, police and the mayor said.

On the same day a man stabbed and wounded eight people at a shopping mall in Minnesota, before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer. The man was conscious when he was taken away in an ambulance.

Investigators are trying to figure out whether the Chelsea bombing is connected to another explosion Saturday in New Jersey, which also may have also used a cell phone as a trigger.
A hazmat team was called to the scene and Union County Bomb Squad brought in a robot as trains on the Northeast Corridor between Newark Airport and Penn Station were cancelled. That device detonated, but no one was injured.
On Sunday, five explosive devices were discovered in a trash can at an Elizabeth train station.
The White House said President Barack Obama was apprised of the explosion.
He was expected to comment Monday afternoon after a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi (HY’-dahr ahl ah-BAH’-dee) on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in NY.

“A bomb exploding in NY is obviously an act of terrorism”, Cuomo said Sunday morning.
Mr Cuomo acknowledged there might be an global connection in the case. All have been released from a hospital.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck is asking Emmys attendees to remain vigilant in the wake of explosions in New York City and New Jersey.
Ms Langmesser would not provide further details, but a government official and a law enforcement official who were briefed on the investigation said five people in the vehicle were being questioned at an FBI building in lower Manhattan.
– Surveillance videos showed the same man near the site of the explosion in Chelsea and where a pressure-cooker device was found four blocks away, several local and federal law enforcement sources told CNN.
Investigators have not determined if those two men are connected to the man with the duffel bag on both streets, the sources said.
A pipe bomb earlier exploded in a New Jersey coastal town ahead of a charity race on Saturday morning. The latest incident was Sunday night in Elizabeth, New Jersey, about 15 miles southwest of the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan.
Authorities in New York City are working to determine whether there was any connection between several explosive devices found in two states in two days.
“We did a traffic stop of a vehicle of interest in the investigation”, the FBI tweet said.

No-one has been charged with any crime and the investigation is continuing.
