Federal Bureau of Investigation responds to alert

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is notifying law enforcement across Colorado and Wyoming of reports of “Middle-Eastern males” who have approached families of U.S. military personnel at their homes, leaving them “feeling scared” following the encounter.

No Wyoming military officials have been able to corroborate the stories referenced in the document, leading some to question whether the document was real.

The men have also tried to get personal info about the service member and their families through intimidation. The FBI continues to coordinate with its military and law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of our communities.

The timing of the release comes just a day after numerous media outlets along the Front Range, including the WTE, reported on an alert the Denver FBI sent to military and local law enforcement on July 2. They said their statement released Wednesday still stands, which says they are not aware of any specific threats to Fort Carson soldiers or families.

The woman told officials that she had seen the vehicle in the neighborhood on previous occasions. She denied the claims, and the men then laughed and drove off in a dark-colored four-door sedan with two other males inside. However, we take seriously the protection of our community and ask that individuals be extra vigilant for any signs of suspicious activities.

The alert document, included in the KCNC report, cites one case in May where the wife of a military member said she was approached by Middle Eastern men who “stated she was the wife of a U.S. interrogator”.

Similar incidents were reported in Wyoming throughout June, according to the alert.

But F.E. Warren Air Force Base effectively confirmed the existence of the alert on August. 5 when it posted a “heads up” on its Facebook page.

Long said another look on Wednesday at the department’s reports of suspicious circumstances in the past few months also turned up no similar incidents. Military members and families are asked to remain on alert for any suspicious behavior.
