Federal High Court grants N600m bail to Metuh
Ruling on the bail application Metuh made through his lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, the Judge held: “I am satisfied that the oral application of the defendant succeeds, accordingly, he is granted bail in the sum of N300million with two sureties in the like sum, whose places of abode must be verified for easy access”. The EFCC drove the embattled politician into the premises of the FCT High Court on Thursday morning, preparatory to slamming fresh charges on him.

“If you suspect that the atmosphere, security-wise, may not be conducive to the inmates in your custody, you can use handcuffs; to avoid a situation where you have to start telling stories, you use your discretion to study the environment and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the inmates in your custody”.
Justice Abang, however, decline jurisdiction in Mr Metuh’s second application seeking to stop the anti-graft agency from re-arresting him.
The application for bail was not opposed by EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Mr. Sylvanus Tahir.
The judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, adjourned the case till February 26, for EFCC’s witnesses.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had alleged that Metuh tore and chewed his confessional statement.
Metuh is facing a two-count criminal charge bordering on his alleged destruction of evidence against him.
Justice Bello ordered that Metuh should be taken back to Kuje prison, Abuja until he meets his bail conditions.

“This is unlike the other accused persons standing trial for allegedly receiving sums of money from the “$2.1 Billion” arms fraud and the PDP has raised concerns about the issue.
