A petition started at change.org is calling for popular online film aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to shut down in the wake of a parade of unenthusiastic reviews for “Suicide Squad”, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular comic series spotlighting the rogues of the DC Universe.
This comes on the back of less than favourable reviews for his latest DC outing, which fell well short of many fans’ expectations.
“It’s a choppy mess”, “what a weak plot”, and “it is too far-fetched”, are some of the comments I stumbled upon before catching an advanced screening of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Ayer decides to use a flashback structure to introduce every character and his thin and often contrived backstory. Time’s Stephanie Zacharek wrote that “by the end, it’s as if you’ve seen nothing”.
Art should spark a dialogue, which by definition requires more than one voice.
“This is not a movie about good versus evil”, says the Men in Black star.
If that’s frustrating I apologize, but I think that will be the best way for you to experience the performance.
Smith’s work would have come across a lot more interesting without the rest of the squad dragging him down. Needless to say, if there’s enough interest, we’re sure additional characters will follow. The Joker’s girlfriend is making her first big screen appearance in Warner Bros. super villain flick, which follows a team of bad guys who have to team up to take on an even greater threat.
