Protest leader Darren Seals, 29, was found shot inside a burning vehicle in the village of Riverview, about five miles east of Ferguson, early on Tuesday, St. Louis County Police said in a statement.

Brown, who was unarmed, was shot and killed in August 2014 by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

While Seals came up during the protests in Ferguson over the police killing of Michael Brown, he did not affiliate with the Black Lives Matter movement that emerged during and after those protests, and was a skeptic of the movement and its leaders.

Police investigating the shooting death of a prominent Ferguson, Missouri activist in a burning auto asked anybody who may have information about the crime to step forward.

The demonstrations helped to coalesce the civil rights movement Black Lives Matter.

Seals was a highly visible activist during protests over the 2014 police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson.

In an interview with MTV.com, Seals described the night the grand jury announcement was made. “It’s a different type of crying”. And it hurt me.

Hours before Seals’ death, he posted on Twitter about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who protested racial injustice and police brutality by declining to stand for the USA national anthem. Seals’ body was found in a burning vehicle, having been shot.

“We are working with potential witnesses and doing everything we can, the same as we do in every case”, Granda said, adding that police had no suspects.
