Fiat 124 Spider could offer hardtop coupe variant
The Mazda MX-5 – on which the Fiat 124 is based (some might say copied, save for the exterior design) – has a normal, classic soft fabric roof version and a more upscale Retractable Fastback (RF) body style that incorporates a complex electrically-operated targa top. If you like the idea of a Fait 124 Spider in coupe form, word is that the auto is coming down the pipe. This is great news for those looking for something like this since in between the 124 and MX-5 there will be more choices.

In regards to how the Fiat 124 will look with a fixed coupe roof, it could look a lot like the Abarth 124 rally auto concept which was shown at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show back in March.
Several reports have said that the Fiat 124 Coupe is going to be released to accompany the 124 Spider, but instead of being a mechanically foldable roof the coupe would literally be a two-door coupe. It’s worth noting that the Fiat coupe won’t be a clone of the MX-5 RF according to sources.
The coupe version of the 124 will likely use the same 1.4-litre turbo petrol found in the Spider model.
According to the report, the 124 coupe’s powertrain is still being considered, with the company tossing up between the UK-market Fiat 124’s 104kW 1.4-litre turbo, the higher-output 119kW version available in the USA, or the 127kW tune that is fitted to the Abarth 124 Spider, which will arrive in Australian showrooms next year.
