The 2017MY Fiat 124 US-spec is scheduled to go on sale next summer. The biggest change comes on the outside of the auto; the Fiat and MX-5 share not one single body panel. The vehicle is the result of a joint venture between Fiat and Mazda.
A 138bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine feeds power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The Fiat gets the same turbo 1.4L four-cylinder engine under the hood that Fiat uses for the Fiat 500 Abarth.
The new rear-wheel drive, two-seat convertible returns the Fiat 124 Spider name to showrooms nearly 50 years after the original model was introduced.
Blog – Why is Fiat bringing back the 124 Spider?
The all-new roadster is available with an array of safety and security features, including adaptive front headlamps, Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection and ParkView rear backup camera.
There’s no news on performance, but the 124 is likely to have a 0-62mph time of around 8.5 seconds. The 2017 124 Spider has a timeless low-slung presence, with a classically handsome bodyside, well-balanced proportions and a sporty cabin-to-hood ratio.
Based on the underpinnings of the MX-5, the 124 Spider gets new clothing and different engines, but the promise is it will be as appealing as its Japanese donor.
The first glance reveals that Fiat made many good decisions with the 2017 124 Spider. A Bose stereo upgrade will also be available.

Due to arrive late next year, Fiat has released multiple teaser images of the 124 Spyder and the auto looks appealing. Fiat’s first 124 units in the U.S. will carry the limited-edition Prima Edizione Lusso moniker and will come nicely fitted with an individually numbered commemorative badge and the exclusive Azzurro Italia (Blue) exterior hue. Customers will also receive a bunch of limited-run items offered only on this special edition, but we will have to wait a bit to find out pricing info.
