“We may be forced to go to Los Angeles to launch the vehicle”. He has been critical of auto manufacturers in Tweets. Fiat announced that a plant in Warren, Michigan, near Detroit, would make the Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer SUVs, while a Toledo, Ohio factory would produce the Jeep pickup. He cited that NAFTA regards both Mexico and Canada, where FCA has two plants that primarily make cars for the United States market: “Should NAFTA be altered, the implications for us would be rather widespread”.

Ford announced last week its plans to cancel a $1.6 billion investment in a new Mexico plant and instead invest $700 million in MI to create 700 jobs.

The automaker said that Sunday’s announcement is the second phase of a plan announced in January 2016 to shift the assembly locations of a number of vehicle. “Mexico is for us a very big market as well”, Mr Diess told reporters at the unveiling of new SUV models designed for the United States market.

“These investments will benefit UAW members, their families and [their] communities by providing greater job security”, Williams said.

A $350 million investment in FCA’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in IL to produce the Jeep Cherokee, which will move from its current production location in Toledo, Ohio, in 2017, with some 300 new jobs created in that process.

The declaration comes as U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has debilitated to slap expansive duties on vehicles imported into the United States from Mexico.

The Compass that the automaker will produce in Mexico will be sold in the US and in many other countries around the world.

He also mentioned Ford’s recent decision to invest in and expand plants in MI rather than Mexico.

He also said Volkswagen had not reached out to the president-elect’s transition team. Automakers have been lobbying the Obama administration for relaxed regulations while the government has been saying no changes are needed. The dates reflect a delay from original plans to launch the Grand Wagoneer but confirm the high-end SUV is still coming after reports suggesting it had been cancelled.
