Fiat drives iconic Jeep to India with 2 models in bouquet

The Italian carmaker also announced its plans to start local production at Ranjangoan plant in Pune from the second quarter of next year. Next up is Grand Cherokee that will be available in three models, the Grand Cherokee Limited priced at Rs 93,64,527, Grand Cherokee Summit priced at a staggering Rs 1,03,39,919 and the top-of-the-line (all thrills) model called Grand Cherokee SRT at (an equally thrilling) Rs 1,12,07,825. The one with the maximum sticker price is the Grand Cherokee SRT Rs 1.12 crore (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The cheapest offering in the Jeep range is the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited priced at ₹ 71,59,104.

The Grand Cherokee is also available in the performance SRT variant.

Powering the new Grand Cherokee is a 3.0 L, turbocharged, V6, Eco diesel motor that churns out 240hp of power and 570Nm of peak torque.

Coming back to the cars, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited gets 4-cylinder, 2.8-litre engine that makes 200bhp of peak power and 460Nm of torque. The diesel Grand Cherokee returns a mileage of 12.8km/l. All three variants will come with 4×4 and will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The infotainment system comes along with a 19-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system in the DRT trim and a nine-speaker unit in the Summit variant.

All models are offered with an extended warranty and a comprehensive roadside assistance program. Earlier this year at 2016 Auto Expo, the American SUV maker showcased the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited.

Stay tuned for the live updates from the launch floor of Jeep. The first Jeep Destination Store will come up in Ahmedabad in Gujarat followed by New Delhi. By the end of October, it’ll have dealerships in Chennai and Mumbai followed by Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and Bengaluru later in the year.

The C-SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 13-20 lakh. Aftersales too plays a significant role in our India strategy. Jeeps next phase of expansion in the upcoming months will be to open a total of 10 dealerships in order to get in the numbers required.

FCA says it has focussed on aftersales as one of its key drivers of growing business in India. The Wrangler Unlimited sports minimalistic design with the front facia featuring round headlamps along with the signature Jeep grille and a sturdy front bumper. The warranty will have global coverage and will be transferrable to the second owner, too.
