Fidel Castro makes rare public appearance
She became one of the most powerful women in Cuba’s political leadership.

Fidel’s last public appearance dates back from July 2015, when he met with a group of food production workers from the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
This is the first time Cuba’s former leader Fidel Castro has been seen in public in nearly nine months.It comes just a week before the seventh Communist Party Congress, which is due to debate further changes to the Soviet style economic model Castro created.CCTV America’s Michael Voss reports.
Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro appeared in public Thursday by visiting a school here to mark the birthday of his late sister-in-law, a revolutionary heroine, the official NTV news reported.
Espin was married to Castro’s brother and current president, Raul.
“I am sure that on a day like today Vilma would be very happy because she would be seeing (why) she sacrificed her life. Everyone who dies fighting for the Revolution is leaving energies on the road”.
“We do not need the empire to give us anything”, Castro wrote in an opinion piece in the state daily Granma.
It’s worth mentioning that not only Barack and Raul held a press conference on which the relationship between the US and Cuba seemed to be tightened, but also enjoyed a friendly baseball game.

Castro did not meet Obama, although he often appears in photographs meeting foreign dignitaries at his home. The Tampa Bay Rays played against Cuba’s national team when the U.S. President visited Cuba, where both leaders were seen sharing a few laughs and enjoying the game along with their families. Raul Castro has said he plans to retire in two years time.
