Fielder, Beltre homer in Rangers win over Padres
Third baseman Will Middlebrooks put his head down after making the catch, perhaps assuming DeShields wouldn’t attempt to score. Too many close games have gone the wrong way for this team in late innings.

After reaching base with a walk, DeShields stole second, got to third on a passed ball and scored on designated hitter Prince Fielder’s popup to third baseman Will Middlebrooks that was officially a sacrifice fly.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – With one swing, Yangervis Solarte turned what could have been another one-run loss into a rare comeback win for the San Diego Padres.
Texas Rangers’ Adrian Beltre (29) is greeted at the top of the dugout by Elvis Andrus, right, and bench coach Steve Buechele, bottom left, after Beltre hit a solo home run off of San Diego Padres starting pitcher Ian Kennedy during the fourth inning of an interleague baseball game Friday, July 10, 2015, in Arlington, Texas. The outing marked the first time in the last five turns the 30-year-old USC product gave up more than one earned run, although he is only 1-3 over that span because the Padres have scored a total of six runs in those contests. Texas’ pitching has been the main source of its frustration during an eight-game losing streak at Globe Life Park, giving up an average of 8.3 runs while getting swept by Oakland, the Los Angeles Angels and Arizona.
“It looked like all was lost and Solarte came up big”, interim manager Pat Murphy said. It’s been a while since we’ve had one of those.
Wandy Rodriguez (6-4) won in Arlington for the first time in 9 years.
Texas needed all four of the runs as San Diego chipped away with a single run in the sixth on a home run from center fielder Melvin Upton Jr. and two runs in the eighth.
The Rangers’ Roughned Odor tripled and singled. In his last five starts, Rodriguez has recorded only two outs after the fifth.
“I felt a little weird my last time on the mound, so I talked to the guys that fix the field”, he said. “They deserve it. They’ve played everybody tough and came up short on the road”. Shawn Tolleson closed it out in the ninth. He homered in the first and again in the sixth off San Diego starter James Shields, putting the Rangers up 4-3.
The gloves: In the eighth, C Carlos Corporan threw to second base behind the runner, Matt Kemp. The team is 6-4 in his last 10 starts. LHP Martin Perez, out since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2014, is scheduled for another injury-rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.
