Federation Internationale de Football Association have now said that the two sides will serve the ban in the coming January transfer window and in summer 2017 after their appeals were rejected.
The FIFA Appeal Committee has chose to reject the appeals lodged by Spanish clubs Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid and to confirm in their entirety the decisions rendered by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in the respective cases relating to the protection of minors.
FIF said that its rules, which ban global transfers of under-18 players except in certain circumstances, existed to “protect minors who move to other countries and prevent soccer clubs from exploiting them”.
The transfer ban applies to all divisions of the men’s team, meaning Atleti Féminas won’t be affected by the ban. The teams can make deals to sign players but cannot register them to play.
Real Madrid, who beat Atletico on penalties in May’s Champions League Final, said it would ask the Swiss-based CAS for an urgent appeal hearing.
Barcelona were given a similar punishment in 2014 and signed Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal before the start of last season, even though the registration ban prevented either man from representing the club until January this year.
In a statement Real Madrid confirmed their intention take their case against the sanctions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“1) We regret FIFA’s decision on the ground that is profoundly unfair and contrary to the most elementary principles of penal law”.
The club said it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and it was optimistic about a reversal of FIFA’s ruling.

“3) Real Madrid CF will request that the procedure is processed by way of urgency in order to obtain the termination of TAS as soon as possible”.
