The working visit of Fifa president Gianni Infantino to Nigeria has been overshadowed by a protest demanding the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick over his illegal stay in office and incompetence on Sunday.
“I think that is left for our administrators (importance of Gianni Infantino’s visit). I am happy that Ms Samoura accepted to be Secretary General and the Executive Council endorsed her, because her choice said something for inclusion, gender equality, diversity and the future that we promise”. “As governor of a State, I set up a football academy because there are so many talents out there waiting to be nurtured”.
NAN reports that Infantino is visiting only Abuja, according to the itinerary released by the NFF on Friday.
Most troubling of all is the financial burden of hosting the fifa president, secretary general, 17 African football association presidents alongside government officials in the country’s football and economy’s worse time.
The duo, to be accompanied by a couple of aides, will be received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by NFF President Amaju Pinnick, members of the NFF Board and Management, and a host of other prominent figures in Nigeria football. Solomon Dalung and NFF President Pinnick will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Secretary general of the Nigerian Football Federation [NFF] Mohammed Sanusi is hoping to use the visit of Infantino to help develop the game in Nigeria, but is aware that the exposure alone will be good for his country.
The NFF President also recalled that, months ago, the first football match was played in Maiduguri after a long time.
