FIFA’s ethics committee has asked for sanctions against Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini after finishing investigations into their alleged financial wrongdoing.

He is now provisionally suspended from the organisation after being accused of signing a contract which was “unfavourable” to the organisation, as well as the accusation that he made a “disloyal payment” to UEFA chief Michel Platini. FIFAs investigatory chamber announced Monday that it has opened a case against Blatter and Platini and that it was aiming to announce a decision next month.

Both men face lengthy bans if they are found guilty, with a decision over their futures with Federation Internationale de Football Association expected soon.

“We are entitled to comment but we decided for reasons of personality rights and the presumption of innocence not to publish the request”, the spokesman said.

Despite also serving a 90-day Federation Internationale de Football Association suspension, Platini is still in the running to succeed Blatter as Federation Internationale de Football Association president when the election is held in February.

The French-language broadcaster said in a news report late Sunday that the 79-year-old Blatter was treated in intensive care for several days.

The demand is said to have been described by D’Ales as a “scandal” and “excessive”.

Stoehlker told Press Association Sport: “Mr Blatter was elected by the FIFA congress and only the congress can remove his power”.

FIFA’s adjudicatory committee, led by German judge Hans Joachim Eckert, is investigating the case after receiving the ethics committee’s recommendations for the lifetime bans.

Bin Hammam’s expulsion was overturned on appeal in July 2012, more than one year after a bribery allegation ended his presidential campaign against Blatter.

Blatter’s former public relations officer and confidant Klaus Stoehlker said the Swiss did not want to “go into detail for now” on what the committee had recommended in his case.

D’Ales maintained there was a concerted effort inside FIFA to prevent Platini taking over the top job in football.
