Fighting On Afghan-Pakistani Border Causes Casualties

Pakistan on Thursday rejected Afghanistan’s claim that Pakistani forces have tried to build a checkpost on the Afghan side of the border.

“We reaffirm our resolve to fight terrorism in close coordination with the Government of Afghanistan“, he said.

Pakistan asserts that the Durand Line is an global border but Afghanistan has continuously refused to recognize the boundary, which was the outcome of an agreement by an Afghan monarch and British colonial administrators.

He said Pakistan and China are on the same page when it comes to facilitate peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan, which is Afghan-led and Afghan-owned.

Though the Pakistani military authorities denied it, there were reports that three Pakistani security personnel were killed and five others injured in clashes with the Afghan security forces in Angoor Adda, a border town between Pakistan’s South Waziristan and Afghanistan’s Paktika province.

He said regional stability, especially peace, security and safety in Afghanistan are in the interest of both Pakistan and Afghanistan and the region.

He said according to ISPR, Pakistani troops responded and targeted positions from where fire was coming.

About possible meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the sidelines of SCO summit in Russian Federation, the spokesman said no side has contacted the other for the meeting.

The premier, who was called on by Dr Lodhi at the PM House today, directed the envoy to continue to ensure that Pakistan’s voice was heard on issues relating to peace, security and development at the United Nations. It has also asked for consular access as well as the charges levelled against Zaid Hamid.

“We will have to wait for the confirmation from Saudi Arabian authorities regarding the sentence to Zaid Hamid”, he added. “A peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s best interest”. “In any multilateral setting meetings among heads of state and government is a normal feature”.

Qazi said Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms. “Our High Commission in New Delhi has approached the Ministry of External Affairs of India to seek details of the incident, which are awaited”, spokesperson added.
