Team Ireland’s claimed their first gold medal at the Special Olympics World Summer Games as 21-year-old gymnast Kirsty Devlin from Belfast came out on top in her Rope competition in Gymnastics Rhythmic Level 1.
Special Olympics Mississippi athlete Kyle Dutiel of Brandon has medaled at the World Games three times, with a bronze in 1999 and a silver and bronze in 2003.
The American is the global ambassador for the Special Olympics.

The World Games, held July 25 through August 2, 2015, benefited from the participation of WesternU’s colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMP), graduate nursing (CGN), pharmacy (COP), allied health professions (CAHP), dentistry (CDM), podiatric medicine (CPM) and optometry (CO).
Law enforcement members, together with Special Olympics athletes, are running the Special Olympics Flame of Hope throughout California, spreading awareness for Special Olympics and creating excitement for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games.
About 20 runners, including athletes and law enforcement officers, passed the torch as they ran down Westwood Boulevard on Thursday afternoon to Kinross Avenue, where UCLA and city officials welcomed the runners to Westwood Village. “I’m thrilled and so is all of Ireland”, said Miriam Callaghan from Drogheda.

This is their first involvement with the Special Olympics community – they decided to help after receiving a phone call from a friend looking for people to help host families.
At the event on Monday to let people with intellectual disabilities mingle with sports stars or celebrities and promote camaraderie among them, Kim was paired with Park Mi-sun, a teen badminton player.
