Clarity has, however, yet to emerge on where exactly the meat was recovered from.

Dadri:The villagers in Bishada village of Dadri demanded an FIR to be registered against Akhlaq’s family.

The meet was included Sanjay Rana, who is related to one of the prime accused under arrest, local Shiv Sena members on Monday evening in the village.

“Situation in Bishada was normal and villagers are cooperating with the administration to prevent violence by anti-social elements”, SDM Dadri R K Singh said.

Safi further informed that all the 18 accused persons involved in this case were produced before the designated in Surajpur district court. They can put their views or evidence before the court. “It’s a failure of law and order”.

“The villagers have made a decision to hold a maha panchayat tomorrow as police have failed to register an FIR based on our complaint”.

Act against Mohammad Akhlaq’s family for alleged cow slaughter and consuming beef within 20 days or face “public anger”, the residents of Bishada village have warned, reported The Indian Express.

“If court issues directions for lodging of FIR then police and state government will have no choice but to comply”, said Nirmal Singh.

The veterinary officer in his preliminary report, cited by the police earlier, had said that the meat sample was not beef, but meat of “goat progeny”. Akhlaq was killed after rumours that his family stored and ate beef at their house. Rana went on to say that a calf had gone missing from the village in September past year and later animal remains were found near Ikhlaq’s house. “We want police to register an FIR against Ikhlaq’s family for slaughtering and eating a cow and change the sections of FIR against the accused from murder to culpable homicide not amounting to murder”.

A recent forensic report has also triggered a political storm in the sleepy village with right-wing groups demanding registration of case against Akhlaq’s family.

But Yusuf Saifi, advocate for the victim’s family, said, “meat piece was recovered from the nearby transformer and not from Ikhlaq’s house. It should be probed thoroughly”, he also said that he would challenge the forensic report and demand a fair probe.

BJP leader Vinay Katiyar supported the demand for registration of FIR against Akhlaq’s family members and demanded that the compensation given to them be withdrawn.

Following the report, a section of politicians demanded an investigation by the CBI into the alleged cow slaughter by Akhlaq. Those who have been locked up in jail should be released. He called for their compensation to be withdrawn. Some residents met the SSP on the issue and he has assured them that a probe will be conducted, said a police officer.
