Filipe Luis poised for Atletico return, president says

Manager Jose Mourinho is said to be open to letting the Brazil global return to his former side after he failed to impress since his £15.8million move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Filipe Luis played 127 league matches for Atleti before leaving for Chelsea in July 2014 – with the left-back playing a key role in winning La Liga in 2013-14.

“In this moment we need a left-back because I think we are selling Filipe Luis now or Wednesday, but I think we will sell Filipe Luis“, Mourinho told reporters.

The club has been linked to 21-year-old Abdul Baba Rahman of German club Ausburg.

Luis started his first and potentially only season in English football on the sidelines, with his first opportunity coming after Azpilicueta was shown a red card at Crystal Palace last October. “I love the squad we have, the additions have been fantastic and we’re going to have a really great season”.

Chelsea have already signed Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco this summer with Asmir Begovic also joining the club from Stoke City. The Italian club have switched targets after struggling to sign Ervin Zukanović, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The fact Chelsea have not been actively flexing their muscles in the transfer market certainly raises some eyebrows, resting on their laurels following their cruise to last season’s title appears to be a strategy littered with risks.
