Final: Clayton Kershaw throws complete game as Dodgers snap six-game skid

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Drew Pomeranz did just fine for the San Diego Padres, giving up just three hits over seven innings.

The left-hander faced the Dodgers in relief twice last season with Oakland, but last started against them in 2013.

Kershaw is 6-0 with an 0.98 ERA in his last nine starts against the Padres.

The Nationals secured their first series sweep of three or more games at St Louis since 1988, but superstar Bryce Harper had a rough day, striking out in all four of his at-bats. “I got into a lot of bad counts and that drove my pitch count up”.

Kershaw (3-1) pitched his 13th shutout and 22nd complete game in 248 career starts.

The San Diego Padres look to ride the wave from yesterday’s 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers as the team’s meet up again on Sunday in LA.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Chase Utley, left, hits a two-run home run as San Diego Padres catcher Derek Norris, right, watches along with home plate umpire Mark Wegner during the third inning of a baseball game, Saturday, April 30, 2016, in Los Angeles. Alas, it was to no avail as the Padres took game two of the series, beating the Dodgers 5-2.

Travis Shaw also homered for the Red Sox, who have won seven of eight to move into first place in the AL East, while Alex Rodriguez homered for the third time in four games for the Yankees, who have lost a season-high five in a row. But a throw by Yasiel Puig beat Ramirez to second base, and he was out. Last season he hit just 1 home run in April and 0 home runs in May.

San Diego’s only other hits were back-to-back singles with one out in the seventh by Wil Myers and Matt Kemp, putting runners at the corners. Keep in mind: they’ve only played 25 games. But Rea struck out Stripling on a pitch in the dirt after an intentional walk to Joc Pederson. The over is 5-1 in Kershaw’s last six starts versus NL West rivals and 4-1 in his last five home starts as well.

MINNEAPOLIS | Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, Nick Castellanos hit a three-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins for their fifth straight victory.

It was Kershaw’s 10th game since the start of 2014 that he’s had at least 10 strikeouts and no walks. Shields is 13-11 with a 3.86 ERA in 38 starts with San Diego since signing a four-year, $75 million contract in February 2015 as a free agent.
