The Hunger Games trilogy, which propelled Jennifer Lawrence to worldwide fame, is hailed as one of the highest-grossing film series of all time, with an accumulated gross of $2 billion.

For the sake of perspective, Catching Fire holds the crown for the highest opening in the series, reaching $158 million in 2013, closely followed by the original Hunger Games at $152 million.

Despite having the 5th debut of the year and the best in over 4 months, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 still posted a series low with $102.7 million.

“We’re in the home stretch, ” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst for Rentrak.

The movie which racked in $247 million globally, fell short of projections that the picture would open to $300 million worldwide domestically.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has many more chances to impress audiences, especially over the upcoming Thanksgiving Day weekend and holiday season. Costing $26 million to make, the movie is hoping to pick up steam as some of the buzz dies down on the big blockbusters that have opened in these recent weeks, as the holidays getting into high gear has the potential to drive people to holiday-themed movies. The fourth and final movie in the Hunger Games franchise – the saga that turned Jennifer Lawrence into a Hollywood mega-star – ruled the North American box offices over the weekend, early results showed Sunday. He highlighted that both Mockingjay films didn’t include the spectacle Katniss participating in the pre-Hunger Games and Hunger Games competitions. On its own, that’s a great accomplishment.

Kidpic The Peanuts Movie dropped 47% in its third weekend to an estimated $12.8M putting Fox at $98.9M overall. The Franchise finale finished first for the weekend with an estimated $101 million.

Meanwhile, the drama, which teamed Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor as well as Nicole Kidman, opened to approximately $6.6 million from 2,392 locations, marking the worst debut of Roberts’ career for a movie opening in 2,000 or more theaters. However, it’s all but inevitable that the new “Star Wars” film will topple “Mockingjay” in mid-December if it can hang on that long.
