‘Finding Dory’ continues to make box office waves

“Liam Hemsworth starrer “Independence Day: “Resurgence” managed to record an earning of only $41.6m which is far below as compared to its 1996 movie that had registered a $41.6m opening, or around “$77m in inflation-adjusted figures”, The Guardian reported. The animated sequel has now earned $286.6 million domestically.

Dory has taken in US$396.9 million globally in 10 days of its release and has yet to open in Germany, Italy, the UK, Korea, Japan, Brazil and Mexico, Disney said in a statement. The film collected 2.79 Crores gross, thus taking its total to 13.46 Cr (gross) at the India box office. An opening that small would be a disaster for Warners as the film reportedly cost the studio and its financing partners around $180 million before marketing costs.

The sequel to Finding Nemo posted estimated weekend sales of US$73.2 million (RM299.68 million) in USA and Canadian cinemas, researcher ComScore Inc said today in an emailed statement.

Instead, films like Kung Fu Panda 3, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Warcraft, Neighbors 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows all landed with a thud at the box office, and in some cases, outright bombed (though Warcraft did fantastic business in China).

Even though it had a massive marketing campaign with headliner Matthew McConaughey appearing all over the televison interview shows, “Free State of Jones” only mustered $7.8 million putting it in 5th place.

“Central Intelligence” is in third place with an estimated sell of 18.4 million dollars in tickets in its second weekend of showings.
