The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m.in the 5700 block of South Hooper Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The structures are not connected, but they’re close enough that the fire was able to spread quickly.
After about two and a half hours, the firefighters began getting the upper hand on the flames.
In total, more than 250 firefighters are working to extinguish hot spots at the scene.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury, Dantic said. Also, a few of the businesses, which includes a furniture manufacturer, carried highly flammable materials, making the fire stubborn.
An estimate of damage done to the buildings has not yet been determined.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation. One of the damaged homes was vacant, Dantic said. Los Angeles County Firefighters took charge over the scene, overhauling the buildings the rest of the morning.
