Fire forces plane to make emergency landing in Somalia

Mogadishu (dpa) – A Somali passenger plane returned to Mogadishu airport on Tuesday after catching fire, airline officials and passengers said.

Awale Kullane, Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations, posted video he shot onboard the plane after the blast.

Flight D3159 departed from the Aden Abdulle International airport at 11:20am local time before turning back 20 minutes after takeoff.

Daallo Airlines is a Somali-owned airline.

One can hear the air rushing into the plane from the large hole, located near the right wing. Officials say two passengers were hurt.

No explanation has been given for the cause of the explosion, but police are reportedly treating it as “suspicious”. He said investigations are under way to discover the cause.

Forbes reported that Ibrahim Yassin, the CEO of the Somalia-based Daallo Airlines confirmed that “a bang, a sort of explosion” ripped a hole into the plane.
