First responders were able to pull him from the wreckage of the Mooney M20 aircraft, but State Police said he died at the scene.

The deceased victim was the plane’s only occupant.

Police have not released the pilot’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Investigations are still on going as to what caused the crash.

The aircraft veered to the right after takeoff from Worcester Regional Airport and crashed into trees on airport property, Early said. National Transportation Safety Board investigators are expected to join the Massport, state police, Massachusetts Aeronautics Agency and Worcester Country District Attorney’s probe.

The crash occurred just outside the airport perimeter, in a wooded area about 300 yards from the airport tower, Worcester Deputy Fire Chief John Sullivan told website MassLive.
