Numerous patrol vehicles surrounded the facility as police continued to search the office, while nearby schools that had been put on lockdown were eventually reopened, NBC News reports.

“The individual who was terminated earlier this morning, we believe as a retaliatory act, responded with weapons and came back and initiated the shooting”, Hickman said.

Houston police have confirmed the incident, saying that the shooter was sacked earlier in the morning but returned with a weapon and opened fire. The injured worker was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries, the Houston ABC affiliate said.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Operations Unit searched the building to make sure no other victims or shooters were inside.
