A Roman Catholic teacher fired over her same-sex marriage says she has been invited to the White House to help welcome Pope Francis.

Both Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s will be leading trips with students and faculty to see the Pontiff in Philadelphia, and Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C, says Pope Francis’ message isn’t just for Catholics.

“We’re inviting the families to pray together and write their intentions on the back of Pope Francis, and then I’m going to collect all of these paper popes and take their intentions with me to Philadelphia”, Tierney said. “I think he is probably, you know, a good representative of Jesus Christ himself, as far as just being peaceful, open-minded, loving everyone”.

Pope Francis also will be the first pope to address a joint session of Congress.

The Pope arrives at Andrews Air Force Base Tuesday evening. “And so that…I think that’s a prism through which the Pope looks at the United States“. “It’s time”, she says.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll of 1,000 Americans has the Holy Father’s total approval rating at 60 percent, half of which viewed him “Very Favorably”. “I think he’ll remind us as the United States of America we have been very much blessed here, and that we have a responsibility to share the goods that we do have with the rest of the world“.

“I though it was cool that he played basketball, because that’s my favorite sport”, says Grayson.

Coyne said he will get to leave the media workspaces to attend a prayer service with the Pope and other United States bishops on Wednesday.

The family’s trip will include the chance to listen to Pope Francis speak about immigration at Independence Hall.
