Firefighters asking folks to fill the boot for MDA
This year, Springfield, Strafford, Fair Grove and Willard area firefighters will be among the 74 fire departments in the Ozarks supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association by filling their boots with donations from their counties and communities.

As part of the annual fundraising effort, they will be stationed at the intersection of Second Street and Second Avenue from 4 to 7 p.m. today, and at Walmart from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Donations will be collected at various locations across the county until September 4 with proceeds benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Jerry’s Kids.
More than 170 fire fighters from the City of Rome Fire Department will fan out with boots in hand at locations throughout the city.
The goal this year is $15,000, he said. “We’re grateful for their steadfast drive and uncommon caring toward the kids and adults we serve and look forward to working together once again to make this Fill the Boot season a huge success”. Proceeds collected help families buy wheelchairs, fund support groups and further research through the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The “Fill the Boot” campaign is a national effort in which firefighters hit the streets and storefronts to collect donations for the MDA.
Money raised is used to help fund treatments and find cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility.
