First 2016 West Nile Virus-Positive Mosquitoes Found In Campbell, San Jose
We’ve come to expect the dreaded announcement of human West Nile Virus (WNV) cases in IL, but historically, those cases are confirmed later in the summer. Most people who are infected with the West Nile virus have no symptoms or experience very mild symptoms 3 to 14 days after the bite of an infected mosquito.

Since the arrival of WNV to California in 2003, 5,588 people across the State have contracted the disease; 229 of those cases were fatal.

With a child in west-central IL contracting the earliest known case of West Nile virus in IL, and concerns over the mosquito spread Zika virus, local health organizations are warning people to be cautious about the stinging pests.

Reduce or eliminate the amount of standing water around your home. Residents may want to go indoors and close windows and screened doors during the spraying and wait at least 30 minutes before reopening doors and windows.
