First airstrikes hit Aleppo since truce began

But France says the Syrian government is behind most of the violations. Syrian state media confirmed the incident, saying that an air force pilot had been killed.

Many of those airstrikes, by Russian Federation and the Syrian government, resulted in large losses of civilian life. Any aerial operation is coordinated with commanders on the ground.

Turkey hit Islamic State targets within Syria with warplanes, according to Dogan, the Observatory and a rebel commander.

Others have been more restrained in their allegations toward the United States.

“These strikes endanger everything that has been done so far by the global community” to end the war, foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Konashenkov says Moscow still has not been able to get in touch with the US -backed opposition to coordinate cease-fire efforts despite Washington’s assurances. Russian Federation is a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and conducted numerous airstrikes over the past year on his behalf. Under the agreement, if the cease-fire holds for a week and humanitarian supplies reach needy civilians, then the USA and Russia’s armed forces would begin exploring broader military cooperation.

The air attack caused a bitter row between the U.S. and Russian Federation at the United Nations Security Council on Saturday night, with each country’s representatives walking out while the other was speaking. But, he was quick to add, the attack did not necessarily mean that the ceasefire deal was over.

Russian Federation said 62 soldiers were killed in the strikes, while the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack left at least 90 dead.

It again called on Washington to force Syrian rebels to sign on to the truce, warning that “otherwise, the realisation of Russia-US agreements. could be put in danger”.

A UN Security Council meeting held late Saturday saw the U.S. and Russian envoys trading barbs following the airstrike, for which the United States has expressed regret.

“I would be very interested to see how Washington is going to react”.

The US-led coalition has been carrying out anti-Daesh strikes since September 2014 without Syrian government consent.

“Indeed, the skies over Syria are starting to get dangerously crowded, with Russian jets flying near United States planes on bombing runs, and sparring with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation air defenses in neighboring Turkey”. As reported by Al Jazeera, tensions with Russia escalated in November when a Turkish fighter shot down a Russian bomber that was claimed to have entered Turkish airspace and repeatedly warned to depart the area. In the last in its series of mistakes and miscalculations in the region, on Saturday, US forces launched an airstrike on the wrong target.

The Syrian military official said government troops had regained control of areas the extremists captured, “as a result of the American aircraft aggression”.
