First Constitution Day: 10 Facts on the Constitution of India
In parliament, Modi made it clear that all governments had contributed in building India. “Because of the rampant misuse of the word, there have been instances of tension in the society”, he said in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi besides others.

However, Modi did not specifically refer to any recent incidents arising out of intolerance or nor did he touch on the debate that is raging in the country over it. Naidu confirmed the development, saying that Modi wants to discuss the bills pending in Parliament. The meeting assumes significance as the government and the Congress are at loggerheads over the passage of crucial legislations and Congress blocking the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.
The house on Thursday took up discussion on commitment to India’s Constitution as part of 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Ambedkar, regarded as the chief architect of the constitution. It has played an important role.
India’s secular principles are under threat, opposition Congress president leader Sonia Gandhi said yesterday as lawmakers paid tribute to the constitution and its makers. She also said that the history of the Constitution is closely linked to the history of the Congress party. “Maharashtra Social Equality and Justice Minister, Rajkumar Badole said, “The base of Constitution is socialism and secularism”. We must know certain facts about the Constitution of India. Discussions in the Lok Sabha, according to the Prime Minister, involve “us” and not “me” or “you”.
Members of Parliament in this same house have shown lot of maturity in the past. The TMC leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay wanted that Modi should yield to the party’s request so that its senior member Saugata Bose could have his say, but the prime minister was on his legs and he refused to yield.
“Let us not forget Dr. Ambedkaar’s warning when he said, and I quote, “However good a Constitution may be, it is sure to turn out bad because those who are called to work it happen to be a bad lot. I congratulate you”, he said to applause”.
The interest that was displayed in this debate was exemplary. If we wish to maintain democracy, we must maintain and uphold constitutional measures. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, and came into effect on 26 January 1950.
PM Narendra Modi speaking in the Lok Sabha, on the occasion of the special sitting to commemorate Constitution Day. This country has grown and developed due to contribution of everyone. It has made our democracy more representative and governance more responsive.
“Our country was divided in different princely states when India got independent”.

But we now live in the modern age and can not wait for messiahs or individual reformers alone to fight against “impurities”; we rely on the Constitution and the rule of law to guarantee everyday freedoms to every single citizen; we look towards an elected government to protect our right to eat, pray, love and speak; we seek reassurance that our rights of citizenship bestowed by the Constitution can not be undermined by which God we believe in or where our ancestors came from.
