First Day In Trial Of Kathleen Kane Comes To A Close

He accused Henry of whitewashing the aides’ own “perjury” when she told the jury the men may try to minimize their own roles in the conspiracy with Kane.

She also is charged with perjury for making false statements in a grand jury hearing about her knowledge of the grand jury records, her involvement in their release and her knowledge of the resulting newspaper article.

Kane is accused of leaking grand jury material to a newspaper to embarrass rivals and then lying about it under oath.

Kane’s law license was temporarily stripped stemming from her charges in September 2015; an appeal Kane filed in February for its reinstatement was denied. “She knew what she did was wrong but she was out to get revenge”.

We learned how prosecutors intend to convict Kane of perjury and how her lawyers plan to defend her.

Shargel argued Kane “did not go looking for old Frank Fina cases” and would not have risked letting a feud with Fina, who “left 10 minutes after she arrived” and whom she only met a few times, damage her career.

“She lies to cover it up”, Henry addressed jurors.

Prosecutors say Kane retaliated by instructing subordinates to leak documents to a reporter showing Fina failed to prosecute a case involving Jerome Mondesire, a former official of the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP.

“She was upset, yes, but that’s not motive to commit a crime”, he said.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, center, walks into the courtroom on the opening day of her trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 in Norristown, Pa. “I’m sure this isn’t the end of the game”, Kane said after prosecutors added more charges to the case.

Kane has hired prominent lawyers to defend her: first, Bill Clinton confidante Lanny Davis and now, NY mob lawyer Gerald Shargel.

However, investigators have found an oath signed by Kane during the hectic first days of her administration in which she pledged to keep secret all grand jury information, including past grand jury investigations. “She worked hard to achieve her success”, Shargel said.

Bradbury was tapped by then-Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, who is now a county judge, to conduct an independent investigation into Kane’s actions after the grand jury referred the case to the county with a recommendation that Kane be prosecuted.

Bradbury said county investigators re-questioned some witnesses who had appeared before the grand jury and searched for other evidence that verified or corroborated the grand jury’s findings.

“I don’t know what Adrian gave to Josh”, she told the grand jury, according to excerpts shown in court.

Opening arguments by Kane’s lawyer, Gerald Shargel, drew two objections from prosecutors as he “veered closer to the “selective and vindictive prosecution” argument”, Pennlive reports. At one point, as her defense team began its rebuttal, Kane even managed a smile.

Bruce Beemer, who headed the criminal section, testified that he was stunned when he saw the Daily News article because he knew the Mondesire leak must have come from their office. This information included a memo and a transcript involving that grand jury investigation, according to Beemer.
